Sydney top scores on climate disclosure

The City of Sydney has scored the highest ranking in the Asia Pacific region in a global sustainability report released by the CDP organisation

CDP, formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project, ranks more than 570 cities to identify those excelling on climate disclosure. Sydney received top score alongside Cleveland, Durban, Mexico City and Paris.

CDP is the most comprehensive collection of self-reported environmental data in the world. The data collected by the company is used to create detailed analysis on environmental risks, impacts and opportunities.

Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the number one regional ranking recognised the City's achievements in tackling climate issues.

"Through Sustainable Sydney 2030, we have set ourselves some of the most ambitious sustainability targets in the world," she said.

"To achieve our goal of net zero emissions by 2050, we are working with developers and the community to raise sustainability standards across the entire local government area. We are also investing in green infrastructure and increasing our renewable energy use.

"This number one ranking means we have been recognised internationally for our exemplary reporting and collection of environmental data."
