2019 is well on track to blast through heat records, with February ranked as the fifth hottest month on record, according to new data released by America’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
The global average temperature in February was the 43rd consecutive February above average Februaries and the 410th consecutive month above global averages.
This was the fourth highest year to date on record. Much of Australia, parts of northeastern Brazil, the Southern Ocean, East China and the Barents Seas and southeastern Pacific Ocean had a record hot year to date.
Global sea-surface temperatures also recorded their hottest February on record.
