Australia has pulled all funding for the UN’s flagship funding program for combating climate change, following the delivery of national budget earlier this week.
Since 2015, Australia has contributed $157 million to the fund, which has been used to invest in low-emission and climate-resilient development around the developing world.
The release of the budget drew sharp critcisim from Oxfam Australia, whose CEO Helen Szoke slammed the announcement.
“This Budget demonstrates that the Morrison Government lacks the leadership and the heart to meet the challenges of global inequality and climate change. It is a selfish, narrow-minded Budget that does nothing to position Australia as a nation which does its fair share in our region, or the world,” Dr Szoke said.
