WA establishes transition taskforce

The Western Australian Government has announced the formation of the Energy Transfomration Taskforce, which will be tasked with advising the State Government on its ongoing transition to a renewable energy future.

Sate Energy Minister, Bill Johnston, said that the new taskforce will be responsible for implementing the government’s Energy Transformation Strategy, which he says will deliver a ‘clearer, affordable and more reliable electricity supply’ to the state.

The taskforce will report directly to the Minister for Energy and will be supported by the Energy Transformation Implementation Unit, a new unit within the Department of Treasury.

It will also produce a Distributed Energy Resources Roadmap to guide the integration of solar panels, battery storage and electric vehicles into the power system.

Former Horizon Power chairperson Stephen Edwell will chair the taskforce.
